South-East Youth Leaders Call for Nationwide Protest Against Fuel Price Hike
In response to the recent surge in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has taken a stand, demanding a nationwide protest.
Following the sudden increase in fuel prices, rising from N537 to N620 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and across the country, COSEYL’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, issued a statement condemning the move as an act of cruelty by the authorities. The group highlighted the additional hardship imposed on Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
COSEYL expressed concern that just two months after settling with the previous price of N520, Nigerians are now facing an even higher fuel price of N617 in some states, with President Tinubu in office.
In an impassioned call to action, the statement urges all Nigerians, especially the youth, to unite and participate in a mass protest against the injustice and cruelty imposed by the current government. COSEYL emphasizes that Nigerians can no longer bear the burden of such oppressive policies within their own country.
The group declares that the time has come to liberate Nigeria from its oppressors, and they vow to march in the streets of all 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, until the fuel price is reversed to its previous rate of N198 per litre.
