A Nigerian female lawyer, Samuel Gift Onyinye Ola, has stirred up reactions on social media after dishing out advice to men on how to legally protect their assets from their wives in the event of a divorce.
In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, April 23, Onyinye stated that any man who loses part of his property to his wife after a divorce is “not smart.”
She advised that men should consider securing their wealth by creating an irrevocable trust and registering properties in their children’s names.
According to her, this would effectively prevent legal claims during a divorce.
“If a woman divorces you and takes part of your property, it means you’re not smart as a man,”she wrote. “There’s something called irrevocable TRUST. Register in the name of your kids, it ceases to be part of a marriage property.”
“The only exception to this could be Timing. If you run to “the trust” during your time of divorce, it will not be honored , it becomes a malicious step,” she added. “If the trust was established BEFORE the marriage, it is more likely to be viewed as separate property. If it was created during the marriage, it may be subject to division.”
