Why I ordered evacuation of generators my predecessor abandoned in his hometown – Gov Otu
Written by Areatatafo

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has given reasons why he ordered that the massive generators bought by and abandoned in the hometown of his predecessor, Prof. Ben Ayade, be evacuated to Government House in Calabar.

Last week, the State Security Adviser, Major General Okoi Obono, signed a letter ordering the movement of the generators.

Early last year, the House of Assembly had alleged that there were state properties in the custody of the former governor, including the heavy-duty generators and agric tractors, and had actually recovered some back to Calabar.

Governor Otu explained that he personally authorized the evacuation of the generators last week since the former governor kept them at the Obudu German Hospital.

“The generators were not working since they were brought in, and there are equipment in the facility that require electricity round the clock.”

Otu disclosed that he had to import a brand-new solar-powered generator from Belgium, which was installed at the hospital.

Otu explained further that the generators will augment power output in the Government House in Calabar instead of leaving them to rot away in Obudu.

In the last few months, the state government embarked on the recovery of state properties which were carted away or occupied illegally.

Reeling out efforts so far on the recovery of public assets since Otu came to power two years ago, his Special Adviser on Assets Management and Recovery of State Property, Gilbert Agbor, told reporters that they have been able to recover several landed and movable properties allegedly carted away illegally by individuals.
