Veteran singer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has shared a blunt reaction to the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari passed away in a London hospital after a prolonged illness. A video showing what was believed to be his final moments in Daura surfaced online, drawing widespread attention and mixed reactions.
Taking to social media, Charly Boy reflected on the legacy of the late leader. He remarked that the death of one man is a reminder that many others will eventually follow. Drawing a comparison to the public’s reaction after General Sani Abacha’s death, he noted how people danced in the streets because, in his words, “when tyrants die, the people rejoice.”
Charly Boy criticized the tendency of failed leaders to flee Nigeria only to die abroad. He accused them of abandoning the very healthcare systems they failed to develop, opting instead to receive treatment in foreign hospitals.
“They destroy a country, then fly away to die in comfort,” he wrote, adding that “life has a receipt,” and no one who has betrayed their nation will escape accountability not even in London.
He also warned others in power, stating that while the people may appear silent, “karma never sleeps.”
The outspoken activist’s post joins a wave of reactions from other public figures like Portable, DJ Switch, and Rinu Oduala, who have also voiced their thoughts on the late president’s passing.
