Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently leading the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
This meeting marks the second gathering of the council since President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration, and its primary focus is finding ways to mitigate the impact of petrol subsidy removal.
As per Nigeria’s constitution, the vice president serves as the chairman of NEC.
The NEC convenes monthly to discuss and coordinate economic planning efforts and programs at different levels of government.
The council includes all 36 state governors, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the finance minister, the secretary to the government of the federation, as well as other government officials and agencies responsible for economic matters.
