On Monday, a social media user raised the alarm over the alleged extortion of N5.2 million by some NSCDC personnel.

According to the post, the victims—a group of young men— were travelling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure in Ondo state when they were reportedly kidnapped and coerced into transferring the money to the accounts of the NSCDC operatives.

He added that the operatives subsequently refunded N5 million to the victims.

In a statement on Tuesday by Babatunde Alao, Tunji-Ojo’s special adviser on media, the minister condemned the act, noting that the ministry is “building a paramilitary that is disciplined and professional”.

The minister, who assured Nigerians of justice for the victims, added that any officer found guilty would face the full weight of the law.

“We are building a paramilitary that is disciplined and professional and will serve Nigeria and Nigerians with dignity and patriotism,” the statement reads.

“On this case, we will see that justice is upheld and ensure that security personnel serve with forthrightness.”
