• Promises to evict Civil Defence from building
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has lamented the infrastructure decay at the Ikoyi Registry, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Correctional Centres, as well as illegal use of government land in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Tunji-Ojo stated this, yesterday, during his working visit and fact-finding mission to Ikoyi Registry, the Liaison office, Immigration Quarters, the new Ikoyi Registry, Zone A Headquarters of the Correctional Centre, Ikoyi Passport Office and the Ikoyi Correctional Centre after he assumed office on August 21, 2023.
The minister, who was visibly angry with the officials over the management of the facilities and advised them on the need to be orderly, asked why a Civil Defence office was in the Ikoyi Registry.
Tunji-Ojo, while condemning the dilapidated structures at the Registry, said: “There is a lot of dilapidated structures at the Alagbon Area Command, and we believe that there are so many things we can do to reform what we have, redevelop and to ensure interagency collaboration.
In due course, Nigerians will see what we would do as it is not going to be a business as usual. It is going to be enhancement of efficiency and management of government resources, in such a way that Nigeria will be a safer place and people will be happier for it.
“We see the Centre here as a security threat and we will do what is right. This is a government of renewed hope, which is not about lyrics.”
