President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed deep sadness and grief upon learning about the untimely demise of young Ivan Omhonrina, a two-year-old boy who tragically lost his life when struck by a stray bullet during a National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operation in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement issued by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, President Tinubu extended his sincere sympathies to the grieving parents who now have to cope with the pain of losing their innocent child in such a tragic manner.
“Ivan did not deserve to meet such a fate,” President Tinubu stated. “It is crucial that we prevent a recurrence of this tragedy and ensure that no other person suffers a similar fate as Ivan.”
The President also conveyed his prayers for the swift recovery of Eronmonsele, who was injured during the unfortunate incident.
President Tinubu vehemently condemned the unacceptable event and demanded that those responsible for inflicting agony upon the Omhonrina family be held accountable and brought to justice.
Taking immediate action, President Tinubu directed the NDLEA management to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation into the incident, ensuring that all guilty parties face appropriate consequences.
Moreover, he urged security agents to exercise utmost professionalism and caution during their operations to prevent the lives of innocent Nigerians from being put at risk.
