A video has surfaced showing four (4) out of the seven (7) surviving members of the Etuboms’ Traditional Rulers Council, (a sub-group of Etuboms also known as the “Etuboms conclave”) from the cabinet of the late Efik king, His Eminence. Edidem, Prof. Nta Elijah Henshaw VI. (Obong of Calabar 2001-2008), who based on the Supreme Court judgements (SC633/2013 and SC634/2013) of 13th January 2023, and the Efik constitution of Etuboms traditional rulers council 2002, which was ordered by the Apex court to be used as a guiding document for the reselection exercise, are the only qualified and authorised Etuboms to carry out the said exercise, being the Etuboms who were at the palace of the Obong of calabar as at 31st March 2008. there are only seven (7) of them left alive as at the cut-off-point of exercise of the said supreme court judgements.
The video features the group led by the Chairman, Etuboms Traditional Rulers Council, HRH. Etubom Ekpenyong Efiok, The Secretary, HRH. Etubom Micah Archibong, HRH. Etubom Nyong Effiom Okon (Paramount Ruler, Calabar South LGA.) and HRH. Etubom Okon Etim Okon Asuquo.
The Chairman cried foul, registering his displeasure over the reselection process and proclamation of Etubom Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu as the Obong- elect disregarding the standard, principles and guidelines set by the supreme court in its judgements (SC633/2013 and SC634/2013) of 13th January 2023 calling it “A daylight rubbery”. The group urged parties involved to embrace peace and allow the rule of law to prevail.
So much has been said and done to twist the narrative regarding this tussle, therefore, unveiling the long concealed truth many are seeking couldn’t have come at a better time.
