The Oloja-Elect of Lagos, Prince Abiola Kosoko, has criticised the controversial assertion that Lagos is a “no man’s land.”

Speaking at the recently concluded King Kosoko Memorial Lecture in Lagos, Kosoko stated that the claim, often made by residents who are not originally from Lagos, is a misguided attempt to rewrite history.

He clarified that while individuals may reside and pay taxes in the city, true indigenes have a deeper ancestral connection to the land.

“I am an indigene of Lagos, not just a citizen. Those who claim Lagos is no man’s land are or residents who can leave at any time. But for me, Lagos is my home—my ancestral home—and I will always hold onto it,” he said.

Kosoko also highlighted Lagos’s transformation into a bustling commercial hub, noting its role as a centre of business and trade.

He described Lagos as a “commodity centre” that has evolved into a “profitable hub for commercial and trade activities.”
