ONITSHA – Human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Esq., KSC, has called on the Enugu State Government to take urgent and decisive action to stop the continued invasion and killing of innocent farmers and residents of Ndiagu Amofia Umuhu Autonomous Community, Eha-Amufu, in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area by armed herdsmen.
Ejiofor expressed concern over the persistent and unchecked attacks across the Southeast, particularly in Enugu and Ebonyi states, describing the situation as alarming. He lamented that despite repeated assaults, the government’s response has remained inadequate.
Speaking to journalists in Onitsha, Anambra State, Ejiofor, who is also the lead counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), cited a recent investigative report by Sahara Reporters exposing the horrors inflicted on Ndiagu Amofia.
According to him, on February 28, 2025, armed herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the community, leaving many dead and scores injured.
“In the aftermath, they seized control of the community, burning homes and displacing thousands of residents,” Ejiofor stated.
“This is nothing short of a bloody invasion, and it must not be tolerated. The Enugu State Government, under Governor Peter Mbah, must act decisively now. Every available security apparatus must be deployed to reclaim Ndiagu and restore peace. Will the government stand by until this entire community is annihilated? The time for half-measures and delayed responses is over—bold, immediate action is required.”
Ejiofor emphasized that displaced residents must be assured of their safety and provided the means to return to their ancestral homes without fear of further attacks.
“No citizen should be left at the mercy of ruthless killers while those in power look the other way. The silence and inaction of the government in the face of these atrocities are unacceptable. Paying lip service while people suffer and die is a betrayal of leadership.”
He further stressed that the primary duty of any government is to protect lives and property, yet Ndiagu now lies in ruins, with its people rendered refugees in their own land.
“The failure to provide adequate security against these murderous herdsmen is glaring and indefensible. Now is the time for action. The bloodshed must end. Enough is enough!”
Ejiofor’s plea adds to the growing calls for swift and decisive intervention to end the ongoing attacks in Eha-Amufu and other affected communities in the Southeast.
