Anambra Governor Orders Counseling for Mmesoma Following UTME Result Forgery
In a significant development, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has directed that Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme undergo counseling with the State Guidance Counselor after admitting to fabricating her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
According to a statement from the Anambra State Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer, Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, Governor Soludo’s letter to the Principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi specified the immediate commencement of psychological counseling and therapy sessions for Mmesoma.
In line with one of the recommendations from the Committee set up by the Anambra State Government to investigate the matter, the Governor also instructed that Mmesoma be placed under the care of a Professor of Clinical Psychology.
This directive follows the revelation of the examination fraud involving Mmesoma, which drew attention and sparked controversy and concerns among the general public.
The Committee’s report, spanning eight pages, confirmed Mmesoma’s manipulation of her UTME result, inflating her score to 362 despite obtaining an actual score of 249. In her admission, she acknowledged personally manipulating the fake result using her phone.
Reacting to the report, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) expressed vindication, reinforcing its stance that its system cannot be compromised. JAMB, which initially faced criticism for exposing Mmesoma as fraudulent, emphasized its commitment to upholding its integrity despite attempts to tarnish its reputation.
This latest development underscores the importance of addressing examination malpractice and maintaining the credibility of educational assessments in Nigeria.
