Serie A suspends Easter Monday games following death of Pope Francis

All Italian league football scheduled for Easter Monday has been officially postponed following the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88, the Serie A governing body has confirmed.

Matches in Serie A, B, C, and the Primavera division have been deferred in observance of a national mourning period.

The fixtures affected include Torino vs Udinese, Cagliari vs Fiorentina, Genoa vs Lazio and Parma vs Juventus, all part of the 33rd round of the Serie A calendar.

The Italian Football Federation has yet to announce when the postponed matches will be rescheduled.

However, all games must be completed before the league’s final matchday on May 25, 2025.

Six Serie A matches had already been played over Easter weekend, including standout results such as Bologna’s 1-0 win over Inter and Atalanta’s narrow victory against Milan.

With the season entering its critical stretch, the league now faces a logistical challenge in finding suitable windows to accommodate the delayed fixtures.
