The residents of Ido Aiyegunle community in Obokun local government area of Osun State have been gripped by panic following a deadly attack by gunmen.
DAILY POST gathered that the violent attack which occurred on Thursday, has left no fewer than 100 residents injured, with several others feared dead.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the assailants stormed the village in large numbers, unleashing terror on unsuspecting residents.
One of the eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity said, “Some victims were reportedly thrown into wells and as of Thursday evening, many of them have been confirmed dead.
“Others were allegedly abducted by the attackers, and their whereabouts remained unknown.”
It was also gathered that several houses were set ablaze during the attack, leaving dozens of families homeless and traumatised.
Some of the survivors alleged that the attackers came from Esa-Oke.
The Osun State Police Command also confirmed the incident.
In a telephone conversation with DAILY POST, the Command Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi on Friday confirmed that the violence was as a result on an ongoing boundary tussle between Esa-Oke and Ido Aiyegunle communities.
Ojelabi said, “It is an ongoing boundary dispute between ESA okenand Ido Ajegunle community.
“I have spoken with the Divisional Police Officer. When we got information about the attack, we moved in swiftly. By the time we got there, houses have been burnt.
“Also, many lives have been lost. When the perpetrators sited the police, they fled into the bush. Our personnel heard voices coming from one of the wells in the win but rescue efforts was delalyed and four of the people brought out from the well were confirmed dead at the hospital.
“We have our personnel in the town and on ground to secure the peace.”
It was gathered that the recent attack had been preceded by earlier ones early in the year stemming from a disagreement over land ownership.
As a result of the violent attack, the state governor, Ademola Adeleke visited both towns and assured that peace and justice would return.
