Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and commitment to good governance.
He emphasized the need for excellent service delivery in line with his administration’s THEMES+ developmental agenda.
Since the inception of his administration in 2019, a total of 111 Permanent Secretaries have been appointed to strengthen the state’s public service.
Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, made these remarks on Thursday during the swearing-in of eight new Permanent Secretaries at Lagos House, Ikeja.
Newly Appointed Permanent Secretaries: Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaye – Ministry of Arts, Tourism, and Culture, Dr. (Mrs.) Abiola Idowu – Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation (HEFAMAA), Mrs. Aderinsola Olanrewaju – Citizens Mediation Bureau, Mr. Tajudeen Mahmud – Ministry of Finance, Mr. Wasiu Agbabiaka – Civil Service Commission and Mr. Adebayo Olayinka – Ministry of Wealth Creation.
Additionally, Arch. Gbolahan Oki will assume duty as Permanent Secretary for Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning on May 19, while Mrs. Ajibike Onigbanjo will take over as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation after the retirement of the current officeholder.
Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the new Permanent Secretaries of his administration’s support to help them overcome challenges and seize opportunities to enhance governance in Lagos.
“These appointments are crucial to maintaining efficiency in our civil service and reflect our commitment to fostering excellence in the public sector,” he said.
He further urged them to embrace their new responsibilities with dedication, adding:
“You are now stewards of public trust and must lead by example. I expect nothing less than excellent, result-oriented leadership from each of you. Your work must be reflected through impactful policies, efficient service delivery, and measurable outcomes that improve the lives of our people.”
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of integrity and loyalty, not to individuals, but to the vision and mission of his administration.
Lagos Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, noted that the appointment of the eight new Permanent Secretaries aligns with the need to enhance the state’s policy implementation for improved service delivery.
He highlighted the fairness and transparency in the selection process, stating that a biennial screening exercise for substantive Directors on GL.17 was introduced to minimize lobbying for appointments.
Agoro advised the new appointees to collaborate effectively with their political heads and staff for the successful execution of their mandates.
Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed officials, Mrs. Aderinsola Olanrewaju expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity to serve. She assured that they would work diligently to advance the THEMES+ agenda and contribute to the progress of Lagos State.
