Cristiano Ronaldo has been encouraged to follow in the footsteps of former Arsenal midfielder by joining Greek giants Panathinaikos, should he part ways with Al-Nassr.
With his blockbuster contract in Saudi Arabia winding down, speculation continues over Ronaldo’s next move, although renewed terms with Al-Nassr remain a possibility.
However, former Greece international Giorgos Karagounis, who played for Fulham and twice featured for Panathinaikos, has called on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to consider a surprising turn in his career.
“I’m not sure if we’ll ever see Cristiano Ronaldo at Wrexham, but I’d love to see him in Greece with Panathinaikos,” Karagounis told Spin Genie.
“He’s already worn green with Sporting, so why not with Panathinaikos?”
The Athens-based side has previously been home to several notable names, including Gilberto Silva, Michael Essien, Djibril Cissé, and Ronaldo’s compatriot Hélder Postiga.
While the suggestion appears more aspirational than realistic at this stage, Ronaldo’s global brand and Panathinaikos’ stature in Greek football make it a compelling, if unlikely, narrative in the twilight of his career.
