Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a signed Portugal jersey to U.S. President Donald Trump, carrying a message calling for peace amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
The football star’s gesture was delivered through European Council President Antonio Costa, who presented the jersey to Trump during the recent G7 summit in Canada.
The shirt featured a handwritten message from Ronaldo that read: “To President Donald J. Trump. Playing for peace.”
Trump and Costa were photographed together holding the jersey, with the message clearly visible on the back.
Though Ronaldo has not made any public comment on the matter, the move is seen as a symbolic call for diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.
The message comes at a time of heightened conflict between Israel and Iran.
Trump, who has remained vocal about the situation, told reporters at the G7 summit that his administration is working towards a resolution.
“We’re not looking for a ceasefire, we’re looking at better than a ceasefire,” Trump said.
He also posted on social media, “We will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place.”
Before leaving the summit early, Trump issued a two-day warning to Iran to halt its nuclear activities, but offered no details on the consequences if the demand was ignored.
