The sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-ete has made an impactful announcement, signaling a major shift in the welfare of Rivers State workers. In a bold statement, he assured the public that salary issues, which have long plagued many workers, are now a thing of the past. “Rivers workers to finally receive what they deserve, salary issues solved overnight,” Ibok-ete declared, confirming that swift actions are being taken to resolve long-standing concerns.
The governor detailed a series of significant steps already in motion to improve workers’ conditions. One of the most immediate actions taken was ensuring that salaries and pensions are being paid promptly. “No worker should labor and then be left to suffer,” Ibok-ete said, stressing that timely payments are a priority for the administration. Newly employed staff at the River State University Teaching Hospital and the judiciary are among those who will benefit from these swift salary measures.
Ibok-ete further emphasized the resolution of salary disputes for medical and healthcare workers in local government areas, ensuring they receive their rightful earnings. The governor also announced that the minimum wage is now being paid to all local government employees, addressing a crucial issue that has affected the morale of many workers in the region.
A long-standing concern, the contributory pension scheme, is also under review. Ibok-ete revealed that the government is working to address funding gaps and find a lasting solution ahead of the July 2025 deadline. Additionally, funds have been allocated to resume the intervention B scheme to ease the transportation burdens of workers following the removal of the fuel subsidy. More buses are also expected to join the fleet to ensure better commuting options for workers.
In the coming weeks, a leadership training program for civil servants will be launched to further improve professionalism and service delivery.
