Leaders and residents of the Rimin Zakara community in Kano State have debunked recent rumours suggesting that their homes are marked for demolition.
They also dissociated themselves from a statement allegedly issued by Mustapha Aliyu, the former secretary of the community development association, whom they accused of spreading false information without their consent.
In a firm response, the Chief Imam of the community, Malam Rabi’u Zakariyya, dismissed the report as baseless and misleading.
“There is no truth in the claims about any planned demolition. We have not received any official communication to that effect,” he said.
Similarly, the youth leader of the area, Magaji Idris, assured residents that there is no cause for concern.
“We are living in peace and calm. There’s no tension or threat hanging over the community,” he noted.
Malam Shua’aibu Muhammad, another community elder, criticized those spreading the demolition narrative, saying they do not represent the interests of Rimin Zakara.
“There is no such plan, and anyone promoting that claim is not acting in the best interest of our town. We stand with the Kano State Government and support its development agenda,” he stated.
Alhaji Baba Habu Mika’ilu, the current chairman of the Rimin Zakara Community Development Association, also clarified the situation regarding markings seen on some buildings.
According to him, the paint was used merely for documentation purposes — part of an ongoing house survey aimed at facilitating future developmental projects in the area.
He pointed out that this is in line with earlier initiatives by the state government, such as the provision of electricity to the community.
“We support progress, and we do not wish to see any form of crisis or negative event in this area,” he added.
The community leaders emphasized unity and reaffirmed their trust in the government’s intentions for development, urging residents to ignore misleading information and remain peaceful.
