Nigerian artiste, Rema, has achieved a milestone with the release of his second studio album, “HE IS“. The 11-track project, which features collaborations with fellow Afrobeats artistes Shallipopi and Odumodublvck, has debuted at the top of the Nigerian Apple Albums chart.
Released on July 11, 2024, “HE IS” is currently going viral on the internet. It is Rema’s second full body of work since his last album, “Rave & Roses,” in March 2022. Rema takes on a new sound in his new album, especially on tracks like “HEHEHE,” and “YAYO.” Furthermore, the tracks with features are “Benin Boys,” featuring Shallipopi, and “War Machine,” featuring Odumodublvck.
During his album listening party, Rema said that he is here to revive Afrobeats from the Amapiano pandemic. Amapiano, a South African music genre, gained mainstream popularity in 2019. Originating from Johannesburg, the genre has elements of electronic house music. Ever since its popularity began, Nigerian artistes have keyed into the Amapiano trend. Examples are Davido with “Champion Sound” featuring Focalistic, and Burna Boy with his remixes on “Yaba Buluku,” and “Tshwala Bam.”

The two artistes are known to be close friends. Also, a recent video showed Rema handing Crayon bundles of cash during a night out at the club.
Finally, Rema’s new album climbing the charts to reach number one within hours of its release shows how his fans have been waiting to listen to his new music. The Nigerian Apple Music Charts is an indicator of the popularity and consumption of music in the Nigerian market.
