Reactions Trail Moment President Tinubu Bowed Down to Be Crowned an Igbo Traditional Leader

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Anambra State sparked widespread attention as he received a rare and symbolic honour from Igbo traditional leaders. During the visit—his first presidential trip to the state—Tinubu was conferred with the chieftaincy title “Dike si mba Anambra” (Hero from outside Anambra) by the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council.

The symbolic coronation, which took place at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, was led by the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III (Ogalagidi, Eze Iweka III). In a gesture of respect for Igbo tradition, Tinubu bowed before the crowned monarchs to receive his title—a move that has since stirred mixed reactions online.

Governor Charles Soludo warmly welcomed the president, accompanied by a host of royal fathers from Anambra’s 179 communities. The atmosphere was charged with traditional music, dance, and a sense of historic unity.

The moment was shared on social media by Daddy D.O, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media and National Convener. He posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“Amazing moment when President Bola Ahmed was conferred with the chieftaincy title of ‘Dike si mba Anambra’ by all the royal fathers from the 179 communities of Anambra State by the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Ogalagidi, Eze Iweka III), at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka

Since then, Nigerians have reacted across platforms. While some hailed the move as a gesture of national unity, others questioned the political undertones. Regardless of differing views, the event stands as a symbolic bridge between the presidency and the Southeast region.
