Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have gunned down two kidnappers, while another escaped with gunshot injuries.
The encounter happened when a 23-year-old man parked his black-coloured GLK 350 Benz SUV along Jakpa Road, leaving his brother inside the vehicle as he went about other activities.
The vehicle was reportedly attacked and driven away by three armed.
Upon receipt of the information, the Delta State Commissioner of Police Delta, Wale Abass, directed the DPO of Ekpan Station, CSP Aliyu Shaba, to mobilise operatives and ensure that the victim was rescued and the suspects arrested.
Acting on technically generated intelligence, the team proceeded to a bush at Ekakpamre, Ughelli-South LGA, where they engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel that ended in two of the abductors being fatally shot and later confirmed dead at the hospital.
Their victim was rescued unhurt.
DSP Edafe Bright, Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, who confirmed the development, said three firearms, comprising two single barrel guns and a double barrel gun, and two expended cartridges were recovered.
Bright assured: “The command will not hesitate to take all appropriate steps against criminals, and that anyone planning to disrupt the existing peace within Delta State will be dealt with decisively.”
