The Gombe State Police Command has issued a strong safety advisory after at least four people drowned during the most recent rainfall across the state.
The police command described the deaths as preventable, and urged residents to be extra cautious during the rainy season.
The Police Public Relations officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi said that the command is advocating for parents, guardians, and community members to safeguard susceptible individuals from dangerous waters.
The safety advisory called for children to stay indoors during rainfall, or at least stay away from rivers and erosion site until the rain stops.
Residents have also been advised to stay away from open or unregulated water bodies and to avoid walking or driving through flooded areas, as the water’s depth and current can be unpredictable.
The Police Command also recommended placing warning signs or barricading hazardous areas in the community. They also called on residents to report any danger zones to the appropriate authority.
