The Edo State Police Command has arrested 28 suspected cultists during a house-to-house raid in Benin City.

Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Benin City.

Yamu said that of the arrested suspects, 19 were implicated and charged to court after being professionally screened.

He stated that the raid on criminals’ hideouts was part of the Command’s sustained fight against crime through visibility policing and community engagement.

According to him, in continuation of its fight against cultism, the Command has commenced house-to-house arrests of identified cult members in the state to ensure that cultism is either eliminated or reduced to its barest minimum.

He said the raid was carried out on June 4, 2025, between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The Command’s spokesperson also added that three suspects arrested from various locations confessed to being members of the Eiye and Aye confraternities, respectively.

He said the suspects have already been arraigned in court.

Yamu added that the Command has warned all cult members to either renounce cultism and turn a new leaf, relocate from the state, or face the full wrath of the law as stipulated in the Edo State Secret Cult and Other Related Activities (Prohibition) Law.
