Pogba reluctant over D.C. United interest, eyes European return

Paul Pogba remains focused on a return to European football, despite recent contact from MLS side D.C. United.

According to ESPN, the 32-year-old free agent has attracted interest from several clubs, with D.C. United currently holding his MLS discovery rights—giving them exclusive negotiating power within the league.

Talks between D.C. United general manager Ally Mackay and Pogba’s camp have occurred, though discussions are not considered advanced.

Pogba, whose Juventus contract was terminated in November 2023 following a doping ban, is prioritizing a move that could help him re-enter the France national team setup ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The 2018 World Cup winner is still targeting Champions League-level football and sees Europe as the ideal stage to prove his fitness and form.

Although he’s open to an MLS move in the future—and has spoken with figures like David Beckham at Inter Miami—his immediate goal is to sign with a top European side.

Interest from Marseille, Fiorentina, and unnamed Spanish clubs was reported earlier in the year, with Pogba rejecting offers from Brazil and Saudi Arabia.

Currently training individually and participating in local matches in Miami, Pogba last played competitively in September 2023 and hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes since 2021 with Manchester United.

His reduced doping suspension ended in March, and he is now fully eligible to return to professional football.
