A truck conveying gas cylinders has exploded at a filling
station in Jibia LGA of Katsina state.
Confirming the incident on Friday, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the
state police spokesperson, said at least six vehicles were damaged during the
incident.
He said the divisional police officer (DPO) led a team to
the scene in collaboration with military personnel.
“Upon arrival operatives found a truck loaded with gas
cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar
Jibia road,” the statement reads.
“The joint team swiftly deployed preventive measures to
protect lives and minimise property damage, successfully quenching the fire.
“Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire
incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”
Sadiq-Aliyu said Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, the commissioner of
police in Katsina state, has ordered a “thorough” investigation to determine
the cause of the explosion.
He added that the police will provide updates as the
investigation unfolds.
