PDP councillors in Edo converge at party secretariat, reaffirm loyalty

The duly elected local government councillors in Edo on Thursday reaffirmed their loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejecting claims of defection to the APC.

The councillors, representing the 18 local government areas of Edo, gathered at the PDP Secretariat in Benin to restate their commitment to the party.

They denounced the recent defection claims as a plot to deceive President Bola Tinubu, the public, and APC leadership.

Receiving about 172 councillors, the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Dr Anthony Aizegbemi asserted that all duly elected councillors remained loyal to the PDP.

“We want to unequivocally state that all councillors elected on the platform of the PDP are fully with us, and their conscience can’t be bought,” he said.

In their remarks, the councillors condemned the unconstitutional suspension and impeachment of council chairmen.

Hon. Izekor Harrison, leader of Oredo Legislative Arm, said, “We have decided to follow Asue Ighodalo and the PDP till the very end, and nothing will change it,

“We are united and strong and are confident that we will emerge victorious in the end. Our loyalty to the party remains unshaken,” Harrison said.

Harrison revealed that the governor had cut off their salaries and allowances and seized his official car, adding that their commitment remained strong.

He, however, reassured that they remained committed to their party and would not betray it, no matter the inducement and intimidation.

Also, Collins Idiakheuan, leader of Esan West Local Council’s legislative arm, affirmed that he and his colleagues have not defected and remained committed to the PDP

Other chieftains of the party who received the councillors are Henry Duke Tenebe, secretary, Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary, Princess Mrs Philomena Ihenyen, political adviser, and Ethan , among others.

Also present were the elected local government chairmen and their deputies, who also denied reports of their defection to APC and reassured their unwavering loyalty to the PDP.
