A special ad hoc committee in charge of the restructuring of government agencies and commissions has refuted claims that it is under pressure from agencies trying to avoid mergers or outright scrapping.

The chairman of the committee, Ibrahim Isiaka, denied the allegation of intense lobbying on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the National Assembly.

Isiaka said that since most agencies are products of legislation, it would be pointless to lobby the committee to spare any agency.

“Anyone who is familiar with governance in Nigeria knows that most of these agencies are creations of laws, and to repeal them, you must subject them to law,” he said.

DAILY POST recalls that the committee was set up by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to review the Oronsaye Report and all other white papers on the restructuring of federal government agencies, parastatals, and commissions.

He stated that the committee has invited all concerned agencies, commissions, and parastatals to submit memoranda.

“We are now open to taking memoranda from all concerned ministries, departments, agencies, commissions, and parastatals of government at all levels, to enable our service delivery to the nation,” he said.

He added that the committee is not out to make people lose their jobs.
