Popular music analyst Daniel Regha has publicly criticized the latest collaboration between Afrobeats icons Wizkid and Olamide, assigning the track a score of 3 out of 10. According to Regha, both artists failed to meet expectations on a song that many anticipated would be a hit.
In a recent tweet, Regha specifically took aim at Wizkid’s performance, calling his lyrical contribution unoriginal and lacking creativity. He stated:
“Wizkid doesn’t really have a good pen game, so not much is expected from his verse in KAI!”
Regha also noted that Wizkid’s delivery sounded too familiar, comparing it to his verse on Gimme Dat featuring Ayra Starr.
Olamide wasn’t spared in the critique. Regha argued that despite his reputation for strong lyricism, the YBNL boss didn’t bring his best effort to the song. In his words:
“Olamide, on the other hand, could’ve done a better job. For someone who’s a lyrical genius, his verse was poorly written and also sounds like Asake,”
implying that Olamide might be following trends instead of setting them.
While Regha acknowledged that the music video was visually decent and helped give the track more life, he criticized a specific moment in which Wizkid is seen holding a weed blunt, calling it unnecessary and out of place.
Concluding his thoughts, Regha dismissed the collaboration as forgettable, contrasting it with past successful pairings:
“It’s a collab that will be easily forgotten (unlike Omo to Shan),” he said.
