No open-top bus parade for Man United if Europa League is won – report

Manchester United will not hold an open-top bus parade if they defeat Tottenham in the upcoming Europa League final on May 21.

Instead, the club will mark the occasion with a private barbecue at their Carrington training ground, according to The Times.

The decision reflects the club’s disappointing domestic campaign.

United sit 16th in the Premier League and are set to finish with their lowest points total in modern history.

Despite a strong Europa League run under Ruben Amorim, including a dominant 7-1 aggregate win over Athletic Bilbao, the club are avoiding public celebrations.

The Red Devils’ congested end-of-season schedule is another factor.

Just three days after the final, they face Aston Villa in the Premier League on May 25, followed by a rapid post-season tour of Asia, including matches in Malaysia (May 28) and Hong Kong (May 30).

“We’re making sacrifices,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “This is nothing compared to what fans do to watch us every week. Everyone in the club is contributing.”

United’s last open-top parade was in 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson retired after winning the Premier League. Over 100,000 fans gathered in Manchester to celebrate.

Amorim acknowledged the criticism surrounding the post-season tour but defended it as necessary for financial and fan engagement reasons.

If Tottenham win, the North London club are expected to host a traditional celebration, but no plans have been publicly confirmed.
