Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued a stern warning to Israel, declaring that Tehran will show “no mercy” in response to Israel’s recent military strikes.
Khamenei’s fiery statement, posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and claimed the U.S. could assassinate the Iranian leader if it chose to.
“We must give a strong response to the terrorist Zionist regime. We will show the Zionists no mercy,” Khamenei wrote.
This statement follows a major escalation last week when Israel launched an intense aerial assault targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites, as well as residential areas—a move that Iran has described as a declaration of war.
In response, Iran has launched a series of counterattacks, including missile and drone strikes.
On Wednesday morning, Tehran claimed to have fired hypersonic missiles at Israeli targets.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump took a provocative stance, urging the Islamic Republic to surrender unconditionally. He also boasted that the United States had the capability to eliminate Khamenei.
The exchange of threats comes amid mounting international concern over the possibility of full-scale war, as world leaders call for restraint and a return to diplomatic engagement.
Meanwhile, the United Nations and various world powers have expressed alarm at the rising hostilities, urging both countries to prioritize the protection of civilians and avoid actions that could lead to broader instability in the Middle East.
