Concerned Nigerians have filed a petition against officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after a video surfaced showing an officer searching citizens’ mobile phones and claiming he could enter any house without a warrant.
The incident was shared on TikTok by user rotimistephenfilms, who expressed concern after coming across the video showing an NDLEA official searching a phone while stating that he had the authority to do so, and could enter any residence without a warrant.
In the video, the officer said: “Yes, we’re allowed. I can enter your house anyhow without any warrant.”
Following the discovery, a man and his friends recorded a video of themselves at the NDLEA office, stating that they had submitted a petition against the officers involved.
Their video was captioned: “Myself and my friends submitted a petition to the office of NDLEA against those officers searching through citizens’ phones @NDLEA Nigeria.”
One of them added: “On Saturday, I saw a video of some NDLEA officers doing stop and search, going ahead to search citizens’ phones and asking them to open them.”
“What is the work of NDLEA? What are their functions? What are they looking for inside someone’s phone? We’re here to submit a petition to the office of the NDLEA to provide detailed information and clarification.”
Several other comments were made in the video, and as the post spread online, concerned individuals flooded the comment section to share their thoughts.
