President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action regarding the proposed N8,000 payment to 12 million households in Nigeria for six months, aimed at mitigating the impact of the petrol subsidy removal.
In a statement issued by Dele Alake, the President's Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Tinubu has ordered an immediate review of the N8,000 conditional cash transfer program. The purpose of this review is to consider the concerns expressed by Nigerians about the program.
Furthermore, President Tinubu has urged that the full range of the federal government's palliative package be made transparent and accessible to all Nigerians.
Originally, Tinubu had sought approval from the National Assembly for a plan to support the welfare of vulnerable households under the National Safety Net Program. He intended to transfer N8,000 monthly, digitally, to the accounts of 12 million vulnerable and low-income households.
In light of the public's feedback and concerns, President Tinubu is taking proactive steps to ensure that the program meets the needs and expectations of the people. The immediate review reflects his commitment to the welfare and well-being of all Nigerians during this period of subsidy removal.
