Singer, Divine Ikubor, better known by his stage name Rema, shares his perspective on the dynamics between Nigerian parents and their financially supportive children.
According to him, parents are less likely to chastise or disapprove of the choices made by children who contribute significantly to the family’s income.
Rema made this statement during a conversation with content creator Enzo. During their discussion, Rema encouraged Enzo to get a tattoo similar to his.
However, Enzo expressed hesitation, explaining that his mother would not approve of such a decision. He went on to recall how she had once given him the silent treatment for days simply because he braided his hair.
In response, Rema advised Enzo to work harder and become a financial contributor in his household.
He asserted that once a child becomes a breadwinner, Nigerian parents tend to be more accepting and less critical of their lifestyle choices.

Rema has previously opened up about his role as the breadwinner of his family from a young age. Following the death of his father, he had to take on financial responsibilities during his teenage years.
The music star revealed that he made his first million naira at the age of 17. Rather than spending it on himself, he chose to give the entire amount to his mother.
