…Urges Proper Investigation into Prior Allegations
In a renewed call for equity and fairness, the Continental Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Africa, Professor Jude Osakwe, has appealed to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to reinstate Ambassador Dr. Favour Obakoro to her former position as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Morals and Diaspora Affairs.
This follows recent investigative findings from Turkish firm ERN, which reportedly cleared Dr. Obakoro of earlier allegations. The reports, submitted to relevant authorities, indicate no wrongdoing on her part in the matter previously reported in the media.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 14, 2025, and made available to journalists in Asaba, Delta State, Prof. Osakwe expressed hope that the outcome of the investigations would lead to the restoration of Dr. Obakoro’s professional reputation and position.
“You may recall that Dr. Obakoro was previously linked to a matter that gained public attention,” he noted. “However, recent reports suggest she was not involved in any misconduct. I believe it is important to ensure that justice is served, and that anyone wrongly accused is given the opportunity to continue serving the public.”
He urged the Nigerian Police, the EFCC, and other relevant bodies to ensure thorough scrutiny of all reports and evidence relating to the matter, emphasizing the importance of transparency and due process.
“I have followed the situation closely and believe there is a need for further review of the circumstances surrounding the case,” Osakwe said. “This is not just about one person—it’s about upholding public trust in our institutions.”
Highlighting Dr. Obakoro’s contributions to the Delta State government and the Nigerian Diaspora community, Osakwe described her as a committed and respected public servant. He stressed the importance of her role in advancing diaspora relations and ethical governance.
“As NIDO Africa Chairman, I have observed Dr. Obakoro’s dedication to service. I believe that the Governor, who is known for his sense of justice and integrity, will give this matter the attention it deserves.”
Prof. Osakwe concluded by expressing confidence in the Delta State government’s commitment to fairness, and urged that any decisions regarding reinstatement be guided by verified findings and respect for due process.
