In a development that has thrown the nation into darkness, the national grid operated from Osogbo in Osun State has again failed electricity customers, including band A users who are heavily billed and promised uninterrupted power supply.
The collapse, which happened at about 3pm today, crashed the power on the grid to about 70 megawatts.
With the last collapse happening on April 15, 2024, Nigeria’s electricity system has so far failed seven times in 2024. This is an average of one collapse per month.

Most distribution companies are already issuing notices to their customers over the development as the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) said the incident has led to power outages across its franchise states, affecting millions of residents.

Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, said the system collapse means Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo are currently in darkness.
Ezeh explained that all interface Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations are currently out of supply due to the collapse, making the company unable to provide electricity services to its customers in the affected regions.

The company is currently on standby, awaiting detailed information regarding the cause of the collapse and the expected timeline for the restoration of power from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo, he noted.
“We regret the inconvenience this situation has caused our esteemed customers and are working diligently to ensure a swift resolution. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this challenging period,” Ezeh stated.
