Man United booed off after embarrassing post-season loss to ASEAN all-stars

Manchester United’s season of discontent spilled into their post-season fixtures as they suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars on Friday, prompting boos from fans at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Malaysia.

Despite fielding a mix of regular starters and fringe players, Ruben Amorim’s side were undone by a second-half strike from Maung Maung Lwin.

The result adds more criticism to a club still reeling from their worst-ever Premier League campaign, which ended in a 15th-place finish.

Amorim, who took over managerial duties late in the season, shouldered responsibility in his post-match comments.

“I feel always guilty. I’m always guilty of the performance of the team,” he told reporters.

“The boos from the fans… maybe we need that. They’ve supported us all season, even when results haven’t gone our way.”

The lineup featured André Onana, Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte and Rasmus Højlund, while Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo were introduced at halftime.

Yet the performance remained sluggish and disjointed, much to the frustration of the thousands of local supporters in attendance.

United have not won back-to-back games since March and the streak continues, even against a team composed of Southeast Asian internationals and local league players.
