Nigerian rapper Lil Kesh has opened up about his ongoing mental health struggles, shedding light on his battle with anxiety and what he believes to be undiagnosed Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Speaking candidly in a recent interview, the “Shoki” crooner said that although he has not received a formal medical diagnosis, he strongly believes he has ADHD — a condition he’s grappled with since childhood.
“I don’t like to identify as ADHD, but I have ADHD. Everybody has a particular level of ADHD to them. But it’s bad when it is a disorder. I’ve had my fair share of that disorder right from when I was a kid,” he said.
Lil Kesh noted that his self-awareness of the condition has come from years of dealing with symptoms, even in the absence of a professional diagnosis.
“I diagnosed myself, but trust me, I know,” he said, while also emphasising that ADHD is often misunderstood or casually thrown around, but for him, it’s a deeper, more persistent struggle.
On the subject of anxiety, the rapper revealed that his life in the spotlight has often intensified his mental health challenges, with one of his biggest triggers being a lack of clarity.
“I feel like not knowing, lack of clarity… that’s one thing that can give me anxiety. Once I know what it is that I’m dealing with or what type of emotion I’m actually feeling or what my problem really is, that is half solved,” he added.
