A Nigerian lady, Pinkie Barbie, has sparked widespread reactions after expressing frustration over a sudden 50% increase in her house rent.
In the viral clip, Pinkie revealed that she returned home from the market only to find a letter from her landlord’s lawyers notifying her of the new rent.
According to the letter, her rent had been raised from ₦1 million to ₦1.8 million. However, Pinkie contested the claim, stating that she had been paying ₦1.2 million, not ₦1 million, and questioned the basis for the increase.
“So, they have increased my rent today. I just got back from the market and I got this letter. They have increased my rent from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million. Is that not too much?
“Nigeria is already hard enough and people are trying to survive. What’s happening, landlord? Is this not too much?” she said in the video.
She further lamented that the rent hike came without any renovations or improvements to the property, suggesting there was no justification for such a steep adjustment.
“People are struggling already to survive. Nobody is considering anybody. Everybody want to kill everybody,” she added.
