Adejoke Afolabi, a young Nigerian woman, has taken to social media to call out ferry operators in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos after she was denied access to board a ferry.
This came two days after posting a viral video exposing a fuel outage that left passengers stranded in the middle of the water.
The original video, which quickly gained traction online, showed Afolabi and other commuters visibly distressed as the ferry they were on stopped due to running out of fuel mid-journey. The incident raised safety concerns and sparked conversations about the reliability of water transport in Lagos.
However, instead of addressing the concerns raised, ferry operators allegedly retaliated. In a follow-up video, Afolabi revealed she was barred from boarding a ferry, with one of the operators heard in the background accusing her of embarrassing them publicly.
Adejoke expressed her frustration, calling the response unfair and dismissive of the real safety issues passengers face daily.
Her experience has since drawn support from fellow commuters and online users who criticised the operators for prioritising image over passenger safety. Many are now demanding greater accountability and improved safety standards for ferry services in Lagos, especially in high-traffic routes like Ikorodu.
