Nigerian Troops Achieve Success in Neutralizing Terrorists and Bandits Across North East, North Central, and North West
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported that Nigerian troops have achieved significant victories against terrorists and bandits in different theatres of operation across the North East, North Central, and North West regions.
Maj Gen Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared the updates during a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday.
In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai troops successfully neutralized terrorists and apprehended high-profile terrorist collaborators in Borno’s Mafa, Kukawa, and Konduga local government areas. Owing to the relentless offensive against them, some active terrorists and fighters also surrendered, expressing a loss of interest in the terrorist ideology.
The air component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted reconnaissance missions, bombing terrorists’ hideouts in Hyawa, Borno. A post-operation review revealed numerous terrorists were neutralized, and their structures were destroyed. The troops recovered a cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, FN rifles, hand grenades, and ammunition. Additionally, they rescued 10 kidnapped civilians and arrested eight suspected terrorist collaborators during these operations.
Moving to the North Central, troops of Operation Safe Haven conducted raids on criminal hideouts in Mangu and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State, recovering weapons in the process.
Operation Whirl Stroke carried out separate raids on kidnappers’ hideouts in Duduguru village, Nasarawa State, and Chinkai Forest, Taraba State, resulting in the successful rescue of kidnapped victims. In these operations, nine bandits were neutralized, ten suspects were arrested, and nine kidnapped victims were rescued.
In the North West, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji conducted raids on bandit hideouts in various locations across Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara states. These operations led to the elimination of scores of terrorists, the arrest of six Nigeriens, and the apprehension of others in different locations.
The achievements of the Nigerian troops demonstrate their commitment to combating terrorism and banditry in the region, ensuring the safety and security of the people. The ongoing operations play a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in the affected areas.
