Jigawa State Justice Sector Reform Committee says proper coordination between police, prosecutors, and magistrates will help improving justice delivery in the state.

DAILY POST reported that, the Jigawa State Government has inaugurated committee to review number of pending cases across the state.
State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Bello Fanini said the committee was established due to the present administration’s concern to end delay in justice proceedings with over 300 pending cases.
Wangara said the meeting of the committee deliberated on pressing issues affecting the state’s justice system, including remand and bail procedures, conflicting legal provisions, and the welfare of lower court judges.
The meeting brought together Hon. High Court Judges, Hon. Kadis, Magistrates and Sharia Court Judges, who engaged in robust discussions aimed at improving justice delivery in the state.
Concerns were raised over unnecessary and prolonged detention of suspects due to delays in legal processes.
According to him “the committee identified inconsistencies between the ACJL, Sharia Penal Codes, and other state laws, particularly in jurisdiction and sentencing.
“They therefore called for clarity on overlapping mandates in criminal cases.
“Judges recommended to harmonize conflicting legal provisions for smoother judicial operations, also appeal for better conditions to enhance judicial integrity.”
