Jigawa State Government has suspended four Local Government Education Secretaries for shielding class room teachers who failed to report to duty for months.
Executive Secretary, state Universal Basic Education SUBEB Prof Haruna Musa disclosed this in an interview with DAILY POST in his office.
He said, the affected education secretaries include, Kirikasamma, Auyo, Miga and Maigatari local government areas.
Prof. Haruna explained that their suspension followed the roles they played in covering some teachers who had not been to school for over six months.
DAILY POST reported that the state Universal Basic Education SUBEB, stopped the salary of 239 class room teachers for absconding from their responsibilities for months.
According to him, “apart from the 239 class room teachers we stopped their salaries, we also identified five more that are not going to school but their names were not included by the affected education secretaries.
“I visited Miga for inspection and in the two schools I visited, I discovered that five more teachers were not going to school for months without any excuses and their names are not included in the list of defaulting teachers ”
“This shows that even those who are responsible for ensuring proper monitoring are not doing their jobs, causing an education crisis in the state ”
He said that henceforth, the Board will continue to track the schools and monitor quality assurance, head teachers, staff officers and education secretaries of each of the twenty seven local governments to ensure they are doing their jobs accordingly.
He warned that his team will continue to visit other local governments and that any other education secretary found with similar acts will be suspended.
Prof. Haruna, however, urged the general public to report any misconduct of teachers for appropriate sanctions.
