Lawyer Threatens Legal Action: JAMB Urged to Apologize to Mmesoma Ejikeme
In a recent development, a lawyer named Johnmary Maduakolam has issued a strong warning to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the management of the board. The lawyer insists that JAMB must issue a formal apology to Mmesoma Ejikeme, a pupil from Anambra who has been accused of manipulating her 2023 UTME result. This legal action threat comes after concerns were raised about the defamation and lack of protection of the girl's identity.
The allegations state that Ejikeme manually inflated her UTME result from 249 to 362 in order to obtain a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors. The Anambra state government was also ready to honor her, but JAMB's revelations brought the deception to light.
Maduakolam's letter emphasizes the need for JAMB to retract the damaging publication, issue an unreserved apology to Mmesoma, and take immediate steps to address the distress caused by their actions. It is important to note that media reports have raised doubts about JAMB's credibility in providing accurate results. However, the lawyer stresses that even if Mmesoma falsified her results, she should still receive legal protection as a minor.
Failure to comply with these demands could result in legal proceedings, with JAMB bearing the associated costs. The situation highlights the significance of addressing the concerns raised by Mmesoma's legal representative and ensuring fairness and transparency in educational evaluations.
