Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Bars Anambra Student for 3 Years, Declares Viral Video of UTME Slip Outdated
Ejikeme Mmesoma has been prohibited by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from participating in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for a duration of three years. In addition, JAMB has nullified the UTME result of the Anambra student.
On Monday, Mmesoma refuted the board’s accusation of forging her UTME result and asserted that she had obtained a score of 362, contrary to JAMB’s claim of 249.
Addressing the controversy, JAMB maintained that the result presented by the student was unequivocally fake. According to the board’s statement, “The Board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named ‘Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle,’ who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138.”
The statement further emphasized that Mmesoma unintentionally divulged the true owner of the result she was parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip displayed the actual owner of the result before distorting the truth.
To verify the board’s firm stance on this evident falsehood, the general public is urged to scan the QR code on the result slip to ascertain its rightful owner before it was tampered with. The QR code encapsulates the UTME result of each candidate, rendering the information on the result sheet as nothing more than an interpretation of the data encoded in the QR code.
JAMB also clarified that it ceased issuing the notification slips displayed by Mmesoma in the viral video after the 2021 UTME. Instead, the board has been providing actual UTME RESULT Slips since 2022, complete with the candidate’s photograph, to combat falsification.
It is worth considering that out of all the candidates who took the 2023 UTME, only Ms. Ejikeme Mmesoma possesses the outdated ‘Notification of Result.’
Given the gravity of the transgression committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, JAMB’s management has retracted her 2023 UTME result and imposed a three-year ban on her from taking any future examinations conducted by the board, in accordance with established procedures.
