In other news,
Ebenezer Smith, a well-known chef from Ghana who goes by the nickname “Millennium Chef Smith,” was arrested at the La Police Station on suspicion of fabricating a Guinness World Record for marathon cooking.
Smith had shown a certificate declaring that, between February 1 and March 6, 2024, he had cooked continuously for 820 hours and 25 minutes, setting a new world record.
Guinness World Records, however, informed the BBC that Smith does not actually possess the record and that the certificate was invalid.
Currently holding the record is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who set the time record from September 28 to October 3, 2023, in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, with a total of 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds.
A sponsor who gave about 350,000 cedis to the cook-a-thon discovered the fraud, leading to Smith’s arrest.
Smith claimed to be the new record holder and held a press conference at Accra’s La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. He also shared his achievement on social media.
Many people are sceptical of Smith’s allegations, raising doubts about the incident’s authenticity.
