IPOB warns Tinubu against keeping Kanu in detention, says it will sink Nigeria

IPOB Warns Against Prolonged Detention of Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Citing Potential Consequences for Nigeria

In a recent development, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed concern over the prolonged detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and cautioned about its potential impact on Nigeria. The spokesperson for IPOB, Emma Powerful, responded to a call by the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG), which urged President Bola Tinubu not to release Kanu.

Powerful criticized the Northern coalition’s stance, describing it as ill-informed and lacking understanding. He emphasized that the Appeal Court in Abuja had already acquitted and discharged Kanu, underscoring the need for his immediate release as per the court’s ruling.

In a statement issued by Powerful, he stressed that it was in the best interest of Nigeria for Tinubu to heed the calls of concerned Nigerians and facilitate Kanu’s release. IPOB urged the Northern coalition to refrain from interfering in the unlawful and unconstitutional detention of their leader, cautioning that further disregard for the rule of law might diminish their credibility.

Powerful stated, “The herdsmen Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) advising the Nigerian President to follow the legal process seems oblivious to the fact that the Appeal Court in Abuja has already acquitted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The Nigerian government’s actions are in violation of both local and international laws.”

“As a lawful and peaceful movement, IPOB will continue to pursue legal avenues to seek justice for our leader, and we won’t hesitate to raise the issue internationally if necessary,” he added.

The IPOB spokesperson urged the government to act on the court’s verdict and release Kanu unconditionally, following the compensation directive by both the Abuja Court of Appeal and Umuahia High Court. He emphasized that failure to do so might have severe consequences for Nigeria and its stakeholders.

In conclusion, IPOB implores the government to take the advice from the global community seriously and release Nnamdi Kanu without delay. A resolution to this matter will contribute to peace and stability in Nigeria.
