Music sensation Rema uses a special moment at his O2 Arena concert in London to publicly acknowledge Afrobeats legend D’banj for opening doors for artists like himself.
Inviting D’banj onto the stage to cheers from the audience, Rema celebrated the veteran artist’s significant contribution to popularizing Afrobeats internationally, especially in the UK.
He highlighted D’banj’s 2012 hit “Oliver Twist,” which made history as the first Nigerian song to reach the top 10 on the UK’s official music chart.
Rema said …
“You were one of the first ones to bring Afrobeats to the UK. You and Don Jazzy held it down. Y’all opened that door.”
He expressed his profound gratitude to the musician for being an inspiration to many.
“I appreciate you for life. I love you from the bottom of my heart. If you never existed, I would have never existed,” he added.
