Olivier Giroud voiced his anger after AC Milan bottled a 2-0 lead to draw Napoli but later apologized to coach Stefano Pioli for his reaction.
The striker had a mixed night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, scoring two headers on crosses from his teammates Christian Pulisic and Davide Calabria.
His brace in the match ended a goal drought that stretched back to September 1.
Despite an individual success, Giroud was visibly upset by the result, saying, “I am disappointed with the result.
“We had the opportunity to win the game and created so many chances, but were unable to put the game to bed.”
AC Milan's inability to utilize their chances is becoming a recurring issue, and they are yet to score a single goal in their three Champions League matches.
Giroud went further saying, “We created so many chances against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund, but were not clinical enough. Today we could've had four or five goals.”
Giroud's anger was on display when he was substituted 10 minutes from time.
He reacted strongly, even refusing to sit on the bench and opting to watch the game from an ice box.
However, he later clarified, “I am only human, I am not a robot. I felt disappointed because I was convinced I could help my teammates that I still had energy left and wanted to stay on.
“Of course, after five minutes I calmed down and apologized to the coach,” he added.
