The Kaduna Citizens Watch For Good Governance (KCWGG) has petitioned the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies to arrest and prosecute the immediate past governor of the state, Nasir el-Rufai and his aides indicted by the State House of Assembly for allegedly siphoning N432 billion from the treasury.
The group urged the relevant bodies to activate the report of the lawmakers, saying this would deter the executives in the state and other parts of the nation from selfishly enriching themselves, knowing full well that after their tenures in office, they would account.
Recall that in the recent past, KCWGG protested through the streets to Government House, urging Governor Senator Sani to order el-Rufai's arrest and prosecution by EFCC.
However, addressing a press conference at the Arewa House yesterday, the group said: “On July 2, 2024, we officially lodged petitions at the headquarters of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the zonal office of Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Kaduna against the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai and many members of his administration that the Kaduna State House of Assembly Ad-hoc report on sourcing and usage of domestic loans from May 29, 2015 to May 29, 2003 indicted.”
Chairman of KCWGG, Victor Duniya added: “Our petitions requested for immediate investigation, arrest and prosecution of el-Rufai and his appointees that were involved in mismanagement, siphoning, and many illegal financial and administrative activities contained in the report.”
According to him, “holding the former governor and those that spilled the treasury and shortchanged people's interest accountable will deter other elected and appointed public officials from mindless looting of public treasury with impunity.” He said: “We have absolute confidence in the capacity and determination of the anti-graft agencies in combating corruption in Nigeria.”
